Be a Baby When It Comes to Your Goals

We are used to hearing, don’t be such a baby, when someone is being childish. Today, I’m telling you to be a baby when choosing the life you want. Below are three reasons why you should “be a baby”.

#1 - Babies know what they want

Babies know exactly what they want and aren’t shy about it. If a baby wants milk, but you try to play with him or her instead, that baby will scream until he/she gets milk. (Trust me I know!) Babies have a one track mind when it comes to getting what they want and there’s no talking them out of it. What happened to our laser focus once we became adults? When was the last time you thought about what you really wanted out of life? As children, we received a different message from adults. We were told things like, you can’t always have what you want, it’s not about you or you have to think about others. I’m not saying these things shouldn’t be taught to little ones, however ,this message became misconstrued somewhere along the lines for the majority of us. Do you feel guilty for thinking about yourself? Are you ignoring your calling in life because you’re trying to please someone else? Do you believe that your needs aren’t important? If you are miserable every day because of the career path you chose, then it’s time to rethink your choices. Don’t settle for playtime, when you really need milk. In other words, don’t settle for making someone else’s dreams come true when your very soul is screaming for substance. It’s not too late to regain your focus.

#2 - Babies keep it simple

Babies primarily only want to do three things: eat, sleep and play. That’s pretty much it. I used to make a to-do list with 100 different things on it. At the end of the day, I may have only accomplished 10 things. Even if those 10 things were the most important; I still felt unproductive because I didn’t do everything! When life becomes overwhelming, it’s easy to feel unproductive and become discouraged. Keep your goals simple. There’s a quote that says, “Inch by inch, life’s a cinch. Yard by yard, life’s hard” Narrow your career goals down to the top three things you want to accomplish and go for it with all you have.

#3 - Babies have wise counsel (Parents)

I know there are exceptions to the rules, but for the most part, parents provide clear direction for their children. They are the authority figures whose experience gives way to a path of wisdom. Proverbs 15:22 says, “Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.“ Find someone who is doing what you want to do and seek their counsel. With today’s technology, you don’t even have to know them to glean from their success. Listen to their podcasts, look at their YouTube Channel and buy their books and cds. Take heed to the instructions that industry leaders give based on their experiences and learn from it.

Designing the life you want, or rather the life that God designed you for doesn’t have to be hard or overwhelming. Think like a baby, but act like an adult and take control of your future!
